THE PRESSURE has been intense these past two weeks, building along with the lunar cycle that began on March 22. We've been working with strong Uranus and Pluto energies, which have pushed and prodded and poked and squeezed us in the effort to help us see and release the emotional and mental patterns that are most standing in the way of our liberation and empowerment.
This potent lunar cycle reaches its climax with the Full Moon this week. Friday's Full Moon is also powerful because it is a "super moon," defined as a lunation that occurs when the Moon is at perigee, the point in its orbit when it is closest to Earth. Full Moons that occur when the Moon is at perigee appear larger than usual, and their effects on our psyches and our planet are also enhanced.
SO, WE MAY be in for a bit more pushing and prodding this week, especially around the time of the Full Moon (12:19pm PDT on Friday). But, a Full Moon is also a release point for the energies that have been building. This means we can gain the awareness and make those breakthroughs that have been promised -- but we need to be fully present and in balance to take best advantage of the opportunity.*
David and Sandra Mosley write in The Eight Phase Lunar Cycle that at a Full Moon, "illumination brings light to all the dark places; the shadows are exposed." We need to be especially centered when there is a powerful Full Moon, so that we can maintain a higher perspective. Doing so will allow us to observe the shadow without getting pulled into it, and help us more smoothly navigate our own and others' emotional and mental responses.
(* A few practical tips on ways to stay present and in balance: Get extra sleep this week, spend more time in nature, and make sure to get some good physical activity as well. All of these help rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit, and will help us be best equipped to handle these heightened energies.)
THE SABIAN SYMBOL for the 18th degree of Libra, the zodiac position of Friday's Full Moon, provides more insights about its energies:
"Two men placed under arrest: A breakdown in the constructive relationship between the individual and society, and the expectable result."
The interpretation of this symbolic image (by Dane Rudhar in An Astrological Mandala) reads in part:
"Negative as the image may seem, one may see implied in it the power in every individual to assume social risks in order to express conviction or deepest desires. Nevertheless, one thing is needed: Facing the Consequences."
We may see a variety of consequences manifesting with this Full Moon, both in ways that we judge as negative, and in ways that we perceive as positive. We can contribute to the positive by making sure our own motivations and actions are as clean and clear as possible.
FOR A FEW MORE HINTS as to themes involved with this Full Moon, here are some phrases associated with the 18th degree of Libra from The Zodiac by Degrees by Martin Goldsmith:
"Bearing witness; standing by what one knows to be true vs. being obstinate and argumentative; telling it like it is vs. being impudent; weighing the pros and cons and coming to a conclusion vs. forcing a decision; legally negotiating vs. relying on physical force; understanding the law of cause and effect; being an agent of justice vs. being vindictive."
Perhaps as we review our own experiences over the past two weeks, we may see how we have already been working with the polarities expressed in these phrases.
JUST IN TIME to help us navigate the Full Moon energies, Mercury finally (!) completes its retrograde phase on Wednesday. With both Mercury and Mars retrograde at the same time, we've done a lot of "two steps forward, one step back" over the past three weeks.
Hopefully, we have gained the insights that Mercury has wished for us, as we reviewed and revisited old mental habits and misperceptions. As Mercury begins to move forward and gradually builds up momentum over the next few weeks, we are again supported in finalizing plans and actions that may have felt stalled.
Our forward progress will be supported even more once Mars also wraps up its retrograde phase (on April 14). More on that shift, and on the effects of Pluto's station retrograde (on April 10) in next week's journal...
Blessings,
Pam
