Astrological Energies August 2 to 8, 2010

Pluto makes his presence known this week. On Tuesday, both Jupiter and Mars interact with the "dwarf planet," whose transformative effects usually far outweigh his perceived physical size.

Pluto is the slowest-moving of the planets involved in this month's Cardinal T-square, which is being formed by Uranus in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra, and both square (90 degrees from) Pluto in Capricorn. This makes Pluto the overseer and ultimate leader of the process of change represented by this planetary configuration. It is his influence that will ultimately gain the most of our attention at this time, and his imprint that is seen most clearly on the changes that are occurring.

Pluto works with our illusion of being in control of external events, through presenting us with circumstances that seem far beyond our ability to control -- or even, sometimes, beyond our ability to analyze. The illusion that is being disrupted is that what is outside of us has power over us. The truth that Pluto tries so hard to help us understand is that nothing external can have power over us, that we are in control of all of our actions and reactions -- the realization of which is our ultimate empowerment.

Scenes from The Wizard of Oz always come to mind when I think about Pluto. Midway through that story, the "all-powerful wizard" is revealed to be a smallish man from rural America, who is moving levers and pushing buttons to create awe-inspiring pyrotechnical displays.

The people of Oz had handed over their authority to this fallible human, based on the fact that he seemed to have powers that they did not. They gave him the status of a god and looked to him for their answers and direction.

At first, Dorothy and her traveling companions are also caught up in the illusion, both through fear of the unknown and through believing that they do not have the power within them to achieve their goals.Ultimately, however, they see the truth of the illusion, and find that they have always had everything they needed -- the heart, the brains, the courage, and even the magical red shoes.

Our process during a Plutonian journey is similar to Dorothy's experience in Oz. This week, as Pluto squares Jupiter and opposes Mars, we may see more truths revealed that have been either hidden or withheld.

While in Capricorn, Pluto is dedicated to revealing the truth about societal and governmental structures, and about those authority figures to whom we've given our power. We're seeing where structures have been built on unstable foundations, where shortcuts or liberties have been taken that are not in highest integrity.

As these disparities are revealed, we may at first be shocked and dismayed, then perhaps move into fear and anger because something we thought we could rely upon is no longer there to support us -- although in actuality, a building with unstable foundations has only been giving the illusion of being reliable.

But it is Pluto's promise that the death of a dream will always be followed by rebirth. Once we move beyond the immediate reaction to the loss of the illusion, we -- like Dorothy and her traveling companions -- are then challenged to claim the strength and the answers we already have within, that will supply all we need to achieve our goals.

Last week, with warrior god Mars feeling the pressure from the Cardinal T-square, "classified" information about the war in Afghanistan was leaked to the public. And, truths were also revealed about the actions of an "old war horse" in the U.S. House of Representatives. Through these revelations of what was previously hidden, important changes will be affected in the weeks to come.

Toward the end of this coming week, Venus steps into the spotlight just as Mars leaves it. This shift places personal relationships and financial concerns under the microscope. We will have to wait and see what will be revealed as the goddess of love, pleasure and appearances takes on the Cardinal T-square energies -- and what important changes will unfold as a result.

Late-breaking solar news: If you visit theSpaceWeather website page for today (Sunday, August 1), you'll see some fascinating footage showing events that just occurred on our sun.

Here's a synopsis of what is written on the site about this morning's events:
This morning, Earth-orbiting satellites detected a C3-class solar flare. At about the same time, an enormous magnetic filament stretching across the sun's northern hemisphere erupted.

The timing of these events suggest they are connected. Despite the 100,000 km distance between them, the sunspot and filament seem to erupt together; they are probably connected by long-range magnetic fields.

In short, we have just witnessed a complex global magnetic eruption involving almost the entire Earth-facing side of the sun.

A coronal mass ejection produced by the event is heading directly for Earth. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras when it arrives on or about August 3rd.

We receive solar winds from the sun on a regular basis, so this is not an event that should cause concern. Solar flares reaching Earth's atmosphere are the cause of the amazing and beautiful aurora borealis seen in the higher latitudes. It is only the rare solar winds that cause electrical outages and other interruptions of life as we know it.

And yet, astronomers seem to believe this is a rare event, so we may want to be ready for some energetic fluctuations on Tuesday and Wednesday. That timing has caught my attention especially, since those days are when the Jupiter-Mars-Pluto aspects are the strongest.

As I was just researching a bit more online about solar flares and their metaphysical effects, I came across a site that discusses "solar healing sounds" and their effect on water. The site included this short quote from ecologist and scientist David Sereda:

The sun emits sounds, and those sounds purify water like no other source known to mankind.

If this effect of "solar healing sounds" is true, can today's solar event be part of the efforts of the cosmos to help us heal the oceans, as well as ourselves? What a wonderful thing to ponder!

Blessings,

Pam
