Are You Ever Overcome With Anguish?

Most mornings I start the day reading the Planet Ark World Environment News email. And most mornings I can read and digest the reports of floods and earthquakes, overpopulation and climate talks, global warming and carbon markets. Not today. Though there was nothing extraordinary in the news, I was overcome with tears after reading that China's population will reach 1.5 billion by 2033. Think about what this means for the health of the planet. The world's biggest population is straining scarce land, water and energy resources with an ageing population and widening gender disparity stemming from a traditional preference for boys. I can't even imagine what this will grow to look like by 2033. What do you see?
